Cell Phone

When the Cell Phone was first introduced into the world, it was a large and cumbersome device that needed to be charged on a frequent basis. However, to the surprise of many, the Cell Phone, or mobile phone, quickly changed the face of telephone technology and now seems commonplace in every contemporary society. The ability to make phone calls from nearly every place on Earth has had astonishing results and people now are more able to stay in contact than ever before. Despite its ubiquitous use, few people know the story of the device or how it works.

The history of the Cell Phone dates back for more than half a century. The first use of radio phones were during the second world war and allowed ships to communicate with military personnel on land. The first time that a Cell Phone was used in a car happened in 1946 as part of a test experiment. Unfortunately, the other technology apart from the phone was not quite as up to date and the mobile calls would have cost approximately $300 each month. It was not until a researcher, Martin Cooper, developed an inexpensive mobile phone that it became clear this technology would be able to be mass produced and marketed. In the United States, the mobile phone began to appear in 1983 and in 2001 the Third Generation network was launched to increase the availability of services.

The way that a Cell Phone works is that it receives power from a standard battery. These are either nickel metal hydride, lithium ion, or the most popular type of lithium polymer batteries. Each of the phones has a SIM card, a microchip which is used to identify the customer on the cellular networks. This makes it easy to upgrade to new phones as the SIM card can simply be taken out and inserted into the new phone. In fact, some phone manufacturers have created phone models that support multiple SIM cards, so a user can use multiple phone numbers with the same physical phone to separate business and personal calls as well as for other purposes.

Features of a Cell Phone vary wildly depending on the individual model. A basic model simply has the ability to make phone calls, but the latest cutting edge models feature a world of possibilities. The most recent Cell Phone group, known as smartphones, are basically small computers that can make phone calls as well. They allow a user to be connected to the internet at all times and applications can be loaded onto the phones that allow the user to play games, plan appointments, and even watch videos. This idea of multitasking has made the smartphones the most popular choice in the world when it comes to choosing a mobile phone model.
